It’s that time

Trust me. I’m well aware that everyone and their mother have their own wild-card predictions for this weekend. However, when your team is out of it, and draft talk doesn’t offically begin until February 4th, it is hard not to test your own football telekinesis. With that said, I give you my predictions for not just the wild-card games, but the entire playoff scenario as I see it (with actual scores in parentheses):

NFC & AFC Wild-card

Washington 10 Seattle 27 [Washington 14 Seattle 35]

NY Giants 16 Tampa Bay 13 [NY Giants 24 Tampa Bay 14]

Tennessee 14 San Diego 35 [Tennessee 6 San Diego 17]

Jacksonville 20 Pittsburgh 17 [Jacksonville 31 Pittsburgh 29]

—————————————-

NFC & AFC Divisional Championships

Seattle 13 Green Bay 20 [Seattle 20 Green Bay 42]

NY Giants 16 Dallas 28 [NY Giants 21 Dallas 17]

San Diego 24 Indianapolis 27 [San Diego 28 Indianapolis 24]

Jacksonville 15 New England 17 [Jacksonville 20 New England 31]

—————————————-

NFC & AFC Conference Championships

Green Bay 24 Dallas 17 [NY Giants 23 Green Bay 20]

Indianapolis 28  New England 38 [San Diego 12 New England 21]

—————————————-

Super Bowl XLII

Green Bay 10 New England 31 [NY Giants 17 New England 14]

Yep. You guessed it. Patriots win the Super Bowl. Looks like I like to live on the edge, huh?

You make a great point. The ‘Skins are definitely playing with a lot of passion right now. I just don’t think they have enough to go on the road and beat a much more experienced team.

Concentrating just on the wild-card round (because I like to look at it week-to-week after seeing what went down in the prior games)…I think you’ve got it 100 % right except for maybe the Wash-Sea game. I think the ‘Skins will definitely make it much closer…and possibly even steal a win. Seattle hasn’t exactly had to turn on the jets for a few weeks now and every game the Redskins have played in recent weeks has been meaningful. They are on quite a roll and we’ll see if the emotion from Taylor’s death can carry them another week.

Seattle by 17? Interesting pick, I say..

    Seahawks 17 Redskins 10

    Jaguars 24 Steelers 14

    Buccaneers 14 Giants 10

    Chargers 24 Titans 7

If the Jacksonville Jaguars are going to beat New England, there can’t be any squandered 18-point leads in the fourth quarter, with both sides of the ball going ice cold for nearly the final third of the game. There can’t be costly Garrard interceptions down the stretch, or the suddenly shoddy pass defense that Jacksonville’s secondary displayed during the Steelers’ big comeback. It’s going to take the Jaguars best possible game, and not the 40-minute version we saw Saturday night.

Reggie, you’re right. In order to defeat the Patriots, the Jags will need to play the game of their lives. I have no doubt that they can stay with them, but when it gets down to the nitty gritty, the Jags are going to have to make the plays and keep New England from doing so. Turnovers are going to be a huge deciding factor as well. It’s going to be a great game to watch and the one that I’m looking forward to most this coming weekend.

Garrard has been as “good with the ball” as anyone playing the QB position this season and I would like to think his horrifically bad pass late in the game against the Steelers was a “one-shot deal.” Turnovers always are gigantic in the playoffs but nevermoreso against the Patriots. The Jags simply can’t turn the ball over at all in order to be in position to pull the upset. One thing I think you can count on…Jacksonville won’t be intimidated going up there.

Thanks for posting at Inside Sports GEek. I also have the Patriots and Packers at the Super Bowl…by simulating ESPN NFL 2K5 football 2004-2005 season. :)
