Bears to bring in ex-Lion Kevin Jones?

by Shea Johnson on Wednesday 11 June 2008 at 1:44 pm

Per The Detroit News, Kevin Jones’ doctor, D.S. Ping, says the Bears haven’t yet contacted Jones but “the word is out that [Jones is] going to hear from them.”

Now, it’s usually bad practice to run a scoop from a doctor of all people, but from what we hear, a certain lawyer has had his fair share of success in breaking football-related news.

Bringing Kevin Jones in for a look wouldn’t hurt. Jones has been productive when healthy, but two major injuries in two years have hampered the 2004 first-round pick. He is currently recovering from season-ending right knee ligament damage that required surgery.

Jones’ first major step forward since recovery will come on June 28 when he works out for all 32 NFL teams.

The Bears could be in the market for another running back after waiving Cedric Benson on June 9. Rookie running back Matt Forte is the early favorite to win the starting job with veteran Adrian Peterson and second-year pro Garrett Wolfe serving as back-ups.

Kevin Jones is a pretty good RB, but I think the Bears should just go with Matt Forte.

In today’s NFL, you need to have as many options at running back as possible. If Kevin Jones can stay healthy then he is absolutely worth having around, especially with Benson gone.

You’re right on, dsf. Competition is always a good thing. If the Bears feel the need to add another running back, it should be Kevin Jones.

Plus, I mean…I’m not sayin’ nothin’, man..but the last name Jones…former first-rounder…went to school in Virginia…limited success with first team…you get where I’m going with this?! — I’m just sayin’, man. I’m just sayin’.

but shea, with his injury history you’re not worried about him being another mike brown on the team?

No, because Kevin Jones, if the Bears were to pick him up, wouldn’t be relied on like Mike Brown is.

In other words, KJ could only make himself a welcomed addition — never a detriment.
