Bears’ interest in Kevin Jones fading?
As first reported on June 11 per The Detroit News, Kevin Jones’ doctor, D.S. Ping, said Jones was expecting a call from the Bears. Either the doc was wrong or the Bears made the call but simply weren’t motivated enough by the subsequent conversation.
Today, Bears head coach Lovie Smith said, “We don’t have any plans to [add a veteran running back].” Smith also made it clear that the Bears are happy with their current group, and hinted that it might be too late into the offseason to acquire any skill position players.
Of course, all that might change when Jones works out for all 32 NFL teams on June 28. The Bears wisely could be playing it coy until then, when they’ve seen, in person, how well Jones is recovering from the reconstructive knee surgery he underwent in January.
