Blog Down Breakdown: CHI 17, CAR 20
Fullback Jason McKie took a page from the Cedric Benson Method of Football and found out how hard it is to gain a yard in the NFL yesterday.
On fourth-and-1 from midfield with two minutes left and the Bears down by three, the Panthers defense stuffed McKie for no gain to cement the come-from-behind victory.
The Bears were up 17-3 at one point in the third quarter, but a pair of costly fumbles by tight end Greg Olsen and a diminishing run defense allowed the Panthers to practically steal a win despite being thoroughly dominated for most of the game.
Kyle Orton overthrew one receiver after another and checked out of a designed run to running back Matt Forte on the third-and-1 play which set up McKie’s zero yard effort. “You didn’t think you could call your own plays, did you Kyle? Oh, you did? That’s so cute!”
At the very least, take comfort in knowing the Bears have been their toughest opponent thus far, and if they limit their affinity for the untimely blunder, they’ll be in contention come December.
