Free at last! Thank God Almighty, I’m free at last!

Ok. So the news doesn’t quite deserve the poignancy of the Martin Luther King speech, but former Bears running back Cedric Benson will not be indicted for his two separate alcohol-related arrests earlier in the year.

In May, Benson was arrested for boating while intoxicated in Lake Travis, Texas; an incident made more famous for the alleged abuse by the cops and Benson’s cry-heard-’round-the-world for his mama.

A month later, Benson got pulled over while driving in Austin, Texas after he ran a red light. Police determined Benson to be drunk and two days later, the Bears determined him to be an ex-employee.

So did the Bears release Benson prematurely, ala Tank Johnson? Fortunately for the Bears, the quality of the decision to drop Benson was not contingent on whether or not he was innocent or guilty. Cedric Benson was/is a shit running back and his brush with the law was the excuse the Bears needed to rid themselves of a cancer and save face while doing it.

The good news for Benson is now that he has been absolved of any wrong doing, the 31 other NFL teams can jump to signing him. Uh. Hello?

Cedric Benson’s incidents with the law were the best thing that could happen to our team over the offseason, because if not, who knows if we draft Matt Forte and plug him in as the starting RB.
I have a major man crush on Matt Forte. It’s nice to watch a running back that can actually catch the ball and not trip over his own feet every 3 yards isn’t it?
Also, if the Lions won’t even sign Benson, that speaks volumes of his talents.
