A Valentines Day Tribute To The Departed Mike Brown
It’s Valentines Day but it feels more like Friday the 13th, which was ironically, his 31st birthday. And while it was no surprise, the Bears’ decision to part ways with Mike Brown will be particularly difficult for me to take.
I’m too young to remember the glory years of the Ditka-led teams of the 80′s. And while I remember watching games early in the 90′s, my deepening association with the team didn’t truly begin until the Wannstedt era (I know, lucky me).
Since then, I’ve had my share of favorite players; Curtis Conway, Brian Urlacher, Ted Washington and Chris Zorich; but of all, I fell in love — albeit a very manly kind of love — with Mike Brown.
Never has a player impacted a team with such inspirational play. His contributions to the defense were obvious, but his contributions to the team were priceless.
Urlacher would even admit, Mike Brown is was the heart and soul of the defense. I’ll always remember his jaw-jarring hit on Detroit TE Marcus Pollard, his sack of Brett Favre, and his back-to-back, game-winning overtime pick six’s in 2001.
Oh, it’s a sad day in Bearland indeed. Godspeed, Mike Brown. Godspeed.

It really is sad to see Brown go. Being a Nebraska fan I’ve had the pleasure of watching him since his college days. The general consensus is that he’s the best safety to ever come out of the Big Red football factory. I’m convinced he would have been an NFL Hall-of-Famer if not for those damn injuries.
Some guys have raw talent. Some have brains. Some have guts. Some have leadership. Brown is one of those rare guys who’s got it all. I hope he’s massively sucessful in whatever comes next for him.
What about trying to sign Houshmanzadeh now that they Bengals used their franchise on someone else?…http://www.fanzak.com/franchise a kicker?
If you have had the privledge to watch Mike Brown play, you would know that he truly loved the game of football. It is sad to see him depart the team he loved to play for. As a Bears fan, i am extremely dissapointed that the Bears organization didnt offer him 1 more year. After all he gave to the city and the team, I think he truly deserved it. Mike Brown will always be one of my favorite football players and i am going to miss wathcing him play. Best of luck!
