5-Round Mock Draft: Updated 2/17

by Shea Johnson on Tuesday 17 February 2009 at 11:18 pm

Just short of the full seven-round mock we promised. Hey, what do you expect from a blog with a conscience so small?
Round 1, Pick 18

DARRIUS HEYWARD-BEY, WR MARYLAND

If Jerry Angelo refuses to pull out the checkbook during the offseason and get one of the marquee wideouts available, Maryland wide receiver Darrius Heyward-Bey will be the man.

Round 2, Pick 17

PATRICK CHUNG, S OREGON

Chung doesn’t have quite the speed the Bears secondary needs, but he can cover the entire field nonetheless. He has free safety size but packs strong safety punch, and could be the heir apparent to Mike Brown.

Round 3, Pick 21

JASON WATKINS, OT FLORIDA

The versatile former tight end started every game at left tackle in ’07 and at right tackle in ’08 for the Gators.

Round 4, Pick 20

ZACK FOLLETT, OLB CALIFORNIA

High-motored Follett has an upfield burst reminiscent of Urlacher and could move inside some day.

Round 5, Pick 19

BRANDON WILLIAMS, DE TEXAS TECH

Williams reminds me a lot of Mark Anderson in that he put up fantastic numbers the year of declaring for the draft (13 sacks in ’08), but could be pigeon-holed as a pass-rushing specialist only.
