The Jerry Angelo Offseason Activity Pie Chart

To the left, an intriguing look into how Bears GM Jerry Angelo is spending his offseason. Bigger picture here.

Watching the Cleveland Browns sign John St. Clair for twice as much money as was being offered by the Bears to retain him — St. Clair gets 3yr/9 mil, the Bears offered 3 yr/4.5 mil — reemphasizes what we already knew: Jerry Angelo is out of touch with the NFL.

For all his spiel about marketplace, and value, and sobriety, Angelo is unconsciously admitting that he knows jack about relative worth. Last year, he misplayed the Bernard Berrian situation as well, thinking Berrian was worth 5-years, $25 million, when, in fact, he was worth 6-years, $42 million. You know how I know? Because that’s what he got from the Vikings.

I’m definitely not saying that the Vikings, nor the Browns, didn’t overpay for Berrian or St. Clair. But I am saying that Angelo is the ultimate low-baller, and in this league, if you don’t break out the checkbook, you’re likely not to improve, let alone walk amongst the elite.
