Oh, Snaps! Jay Cutler On The Trading Block, Insulin Supply Through The Roof In Chicago
It’s official: After not answering Josh McDaniels and Pat Bowlen’s total of 117 phone calls, 12 text messages, and two facebook friend requests, even, in the last week and a half, the Broncos are starting to sense Jay Cutler doesn’t want to be around anymore. So, now they’re taking the next appropriate step, and trying to trade him.
Earlier last month, it was reported 10 teams had inquired about Cutler’s availability, including the Jets, Bucs, Redskins and entire NFC North — minus Green Bay.
The Bears are listed as one of six teams “in the mix” for Cutler by USA Today, but five other teams are marked as “hot on the trail,” which would seemingly indicate the Bears’ lesser ability of actually making a deal.
It’s well known the Broncos expect a signal caller with starter quality — among other things — in return for Cutler, making Kyle Orton a no-brainer as part of any package the Bears would need to offer. The Bears would likely need to give up their first-round picks in both 2009 and 2010, as well.
The last piece of the puzzle would either be a few mid-level players like Adrian Peterson, Jamar Williams, and Danieal Manning, or one big-time name. Someone along the lines of an Adewale Ogunleye, Nathan Vasher, or — gasp! — Brian Urlacher.
It’d be a lot to give up, and it’s maybe more than the Bears have. But you know, 23 different quarterbacks in 15 years can’t be wrong.
