Yahoo Sports: Bears Receiving Corps Is One Of The Worst Of All Time
The last post of the week: something to ponder as you await the certain couch slouch and booze binge of this weekend.
I know, I know, we get it: the Bears group of wide receivers is sub-par at best. Hester has always been an explosive playmaker but he’s still learning, Davis is nothing to write home about, and… and… who else do the Bears have again? Oh, yeah, a trio of rookies, an underachieving second year pro with no NFL catches, and Brandon Rideau (who I like for some reason).
So while I get why this corps is often put on blast and even mocked mercilessly as the worst group in the NFL, I never thought of them to be so bad to receive consideration for “one of the worst [groups] of all-time.”
Worst. Of. All. Time. Really? Really, really?
Just in the Super Bowl era, there’s been 43 seasons played with–sans the proper math and give or take a little or a lot–1,200 teams and 1,200 different receiving corps. To say, of those 1,200, that this year’s Bears corps ranks among the worst five, or 10, or 20, is really… is just… wow.
Talent wise–I am inclined to not disagree? I suppose. But, if you took into account their expected production in 2009 with Jay Cutler at the helm, it would not qualify them as one of the worst groups ever. They might actually surprise some and finish in the top half of receiving groups in terms of receiving yards and yards-per-catch.
Kind of similar to Tom Brady and his group of merry bandits in 2000, 2003, and 2004. And hey, that didn’t turn out so bad.

It’s bad… but I don’t know if it’s all-time bad. I think it will be better than last year’s group at least, so that’s something!
I’m telling you: if Brandon Rideau gets a chance…
It certainly can’t get much worse, but at least you know 2009’s WR’s will not be the worst ever.
They are pretty bad, but you gotta figure Cutler is going to improve them especially since he can stretch the field and keep corners from cheating in.
