The Stats Don’t Lie? Cutler And Favre Played Near Identically In 2008

I’m confused. Is this stat comparison between Brett Favre and Jay Cutler meant to insinuate the Bears are no better off with a 25-year old Pro Bowler than they are a 39-year old washed up, wishy-washy Wisconsin legend? Or is Football Scientist author K.C. Joyner, you know, just sayin’?

In March of 2009, Joyner crunched the numbers and analyzed the 2008 seasons of Favre and Cutler and found that their performances were strikingly similar.

So, is it a good thing that, three years into his career, your franchise savior only played equivalent to your team’s once most-loathed rival, a whole three years after his career should have ended? Probably not.

But what does it all mean? Not a damn thing, why of course! Who the fuck does Joyner think he is? Statistics in football, much like in everything else, don’t always tell the true story. But, whatever you make of it, best damn believe this: Viking proponents will reference it to equate the Vikings’ inevitable unlikely probable acquisition of Favre to the Bears’ trade for Cutler. Or something.
