Bears Are Likely The Most Recent, Third Team To Inquire About Sharpshooting Burress

A Drew Rosenhaus tweet had identified that three teams were, indeed, interested in signing free agent wide receiver Plaxico Burress, but did not specify which three teams those were. Now, ESPN is speculating that the three teams are the Bucs, Jets and Bears.

Based on a Scores Report article last week, when Rosenhaus stated he was pleased that a third team had entered into the mix, the Bucs and Jets were believed to be the initial two teams. Of course, then, this would make the Bears the more recent third team.

If that’s true, how much has the Bears players’ active lobbying for the troubled star receiver influenced Jerry Angelo’s thinking process? After all, only three weeks ago, Angelo confirmed that the Bears were not one of two teams at the time interested in acquiring Burress.

Ultimately, however, none of this matters if Burress’ lawyer, Benjamin Brafman, can’t work some type of deal to render Burress eligible to play football in 2009. But still, even then, he would be subjected to the mercy of NFL commish Roger Goodell. Phew!

While it’s exciting to marvel over the idea, I don’t think this is happening…
