Lovie Smith Is Still The Best Head Coach With A Funny Name

by Shea Johnson on Monday 8 June 2009 at 8:10 pm

All logic, expunged by a single list; The Sporting News can take credit for it after ranking all 32 NFL head coaches.

Is it worse that Lovie Smith ranks an underwhelming 20th–mind you, it’s out of 32–or that ahead of him are the unassuming ex-Bears head coach Dick Jauron (18) and the ridiculously intense ex-Bears linebacker Mike Singletary (14)?

That’s right, TSN is basically saying the Bears would be better off with either a coach who they fired six years ago, or one who wears his pants around his ankles during halftime locker room speeches.

Lovie smith has made so many bizarre calls (gaffes) at critical moments of games during his tenure as Bears Head Coach that I still cannot figure out how or why he is still here. Furthermore, he does not even come close to exemplifying the tradtion of what the leader of the Chicago Bears should be; such as Papa Bear Halas or Mike Ditka. Can we please get a better head coach in Chicago?

It’s not that the Bear players are subpar compared to those on most other teams, it’s that the Bears front office and coaching staff is overly simplistic and reactionary. Case in point, Cedric Benson, Kyle Orton, Bernard Berrian, etc., all play well for other teams and under different systems. Orton commented to this earlier in the year about how much more advanced the Broncos offensive system is compared to the Bears. When will the McCaskey’s pull the plug on the Lovie Smith experiment? He is best suited as a defensive coordinator. As for Ron Turner, he might be a good high school coach.
