Clearly, Broncos Fans Haven’t Let That Trade Thing Go

by Shea Johnson on Sunday 30 August 2009 at 11:30 pm

Me: Denver Broncos fans do not appreciate Jay Cutler. You: How unappreciative are they? Me: They’re so unappreciative, their insistence on vehemently booing and stomping their feet every time Cutler took a snap in the first half caused the stadium, and thus the television cameras, to literally shake. Hey! What did he ever do to you, man? (more…)

This Guy, Everyone Else, Anxiously Awaits Cutler’s Return To Mile High

by Shea Johnson on Friday 28 August 2009 at 6:00 pm

The last post of the week: something to ponder as you await the certain couch slouch and booze binge of this weekend.

You can bet “Barrel Man” won’t be the only one watching this Sunday Night when the Bears play the Broncos in the third preseason game of the year. And, now with news that Brandon Marshall has been suspended for his recent practice tomfoolery, is there really any reason not to watch?

Just in case: Kyle Orton called Jay Cutler a “nancy wancy” and Bob Babich has a major crush on Jeb Putzier. Then, there is always Todd Sauerbraun … except sadly, all that is true.

We’re out for the weekend. Feel free to use this post as your own anarchic live blog for the game, I might check in on it. Remember to send your tips to blogdownchicagobears@gmail.com. Have a great weekend, homers.

At Least Bears Have More Elite Players Than Lions

by Shea Johnson on Friday 28 August 2009 at 5:30 pm

National Football Post‘s Michael Lombardi is getting all Nick-Nolte-and-Shaq-movie on us, and putting his finger on who, in his view, are the “blue-chip” players for every NFL team. What exactly is a “blue-chip” player, you ask? Well, Matt Forte is one, so apparently it’s another way of saying really, really good. (more…)

The Most Injured Player Of The Decade Takes The Distinction Very, Very Seriously

by Shea Johnson on Friday 28 August 2009 at 3:15 pm

As news broke today that Dusty Dvoracek will, indeed, miss the entire 2009 season with a torn ACL, The Football Outsiders make an interesting observation: Dvoracek is the most injured player of the decade. Hmm, well that certainly makes sense.

Devin Hester Is Ready To Run By You Again

by Shea Johnson on Thursday 27 August 2009 at 9:45 pm

Aww, snaps! Devin Hester is preparing to return punts, something he’ll do starting this Sunday night versus Denver. He used to be pretty good if I remember …

Unfounded Rumor Of The Day: Marvin Harrison To Bears

by Shea Johnson on Tuesday 25 August 2009 at 6:45 pm

Who is Marco Scola and what is bleacherreport.com? Why this matters is because of this, an article claiming that a source of Scola’s has inside information on an existing Bears offer to 37-year old receiver Marvin Harrison. (more…)

Josh Bullocks Involved In Pyramid Scheme (Update)

by Shea Johnson on Tuesday 25 August 2009 at 4:10 pm

UPDATE: Neither of the three players are suspects.

NFL twins Daniel and Josh Bullocks (obviously, no longer a Saint) do everything together. And, when they add Chiefs linebacker Demorrio Williams to the fold, they own Williams & Bullocks, a successful company of some sort. It’s just a shame that their partner in the company and the one who manages it, Mary Wong, did some things that caused Michael Vick to sue Williams & Bullocks back in January. But, hey, at least they’re not part of a Ponzi scheme … Damn you, Miss Wong!

Why Your Team Sucks: Green Bay Packers

by Matt Phillip on Tuesday 25 August 2009 at 1:30 pm

“Why Your Team Sucks” is a new feature that will merely be an excuse to talk shit about the rest of the conference. Yeah, this will make us a lot of friends.

Why They Suck: You knew these guys were coming last, right??? The Green Bay Packers. Why do they suck?? I really don’t have to say much beyond the team name and hundreds of reasons to hate this team will come up. (more…)

Dusty Dvoracek Swears Fourth Time Isn’t Like First Three (Update)

by Shea Johnson on Monday 24 August 2009 at 9:00 pm

Dvoracek is getting his knee scoped and will be reevaluated Friday via the Chicago Tribune.

Depending on who you believe–”a source close to the player” or the player himself–Dusty Dvoracek is either out for the season … again, or not. If he, indeed, has suffered a torn ACL in his right knee, it will prove to be ridiculously tragic, and also, undoubtedly end his painfully short tenure with the team. If it is a sprained MCL, it will still be a setback, but at least afford him the opportunity to turn things around. (more…)

Bears Beat Giants, Urlacher Has Hard Time Not Getting In Brandon Jacob’s Way

by Shea Johnson on Monday 24 August 2009 at 6:45 pm

Second game: much better result. Matt Forte looked every bit of the “fantasy stud” he’s been anointed, carrying nine times for 58 yards and one seemingly effortless touchdown. One of the other team’s running backs did quite well, too … running through Brian Urlacher more than just once; which, understandably, is codeword for twice. (more…)

To Avoid Throwing Up, Have Somebody Read This To You

by Shea Johnson on Friday 21 August 2009 at 10:14 pm

The last post of the week: something to ponder as you await the certain couch slouch and booze binge of this weekend.

Obviously, the big news of the week is Brett Favre’s totally not surprising return to pro football and signing with Minnesota. Just when Tavaris Jackson thought it was safe, Favre decides to ruin all of our lives and make everything about him once again.

The scary thing, I guess, is that it could happen to anyone. Yes, folks, Favre could happen even to you! So, fans of the Dolphins, 49ers, Seahawks, Raiders, or every other team for that matter … tread lightly. One day, you’re content with your okay quarterback and the next, Favre is on a private leer jet from Hattiesburg on his way to your city, on the verge of explaining why your team “was the perfect fit” and why your mother deserves to be happy, too.

The Rise And Fall Of Nathan Vasher

by Shea Johnson on Friday 21 August 2009 at 8:00 pm

Five years ago, Nathan Vasher’s career with the Chicago Bears seemed bright and unbounded. He was a recent fourth-round draft pick, many considered him a steal, and even more were infatuated with the video making rounds on YouTube featuring him blowing up an oblivious Carlos Francis. So, how does it get to the point where a mere five years later, anticipation is no longer forming in regard to his star potential, but instead, for his final days with the club in which it all started? (more…)
