Dusty Dvoracek Swears Fourth Time Isn’t Like First Three (Update)
Dvoracek is getting his knee scoped and will be reevaluated Friday via the Chicago Tribune.
Depending on who you believe–”a source close to the player” or the player himself–Dusty Dvoracek is either out for the season … again, or not. If he, indeed, has suffered a torn ACL in his right knee, it will prove to be ridiculously tragic, and also, undoubtedly end his painfully short tenure with the team. If it is a sprained MCL, it will still be a setback, but at least afford him the opportunity to turn things around.
Dvoracek’s record reads like this: four seasons, potentially four season-ending injuries. His penchant for injury has limited him to just 13 career games–12 of which were played last year. In 2006, he sat out the entire season with a foot injury. In 2007, he made his first career start against San Diego which was promptly ended two tackles in, after he (oh-oh) tore the ACL in his right knee.
So, it’s no wonder, really, why Dvoracek and Lovie Smith are playing it all optimistically right now. Smith refuted the report of a torn ACL, too:
“When I say it’s an MCL, that’s what it is,” Smith said. “That’s all we know. I’m always optimistic about it.”
But, seriously, when is Smith not optimistic? It’s not necessarily a resounding vote of confidence to hear Lovie speak highly of anything, because no matter who you are, in Lovie’s eyes, you will have “done some good things” or “been his quarterback.”
Next, the wait-and-see game indubitably begins. Dvoracek will have more tests done, and a definitive conclusion should come on Wednesday.

definitely sucks for dusty. feel for the guy because they say he works hard and the other players like him. that being said, we gotta move on. glad we got adams and harrison at that nt spot to make up for this. i know depth is important, but they are two damn good ballers. go bears!
I’m all about having Plan A, B, and C… so, depth is important in this sport b/c you never know. And Lovie has to be himself. Otherwise, people would say he’s not the guy for the job b/c he has this situation and doesn’t have a positive outlook for it. Sorry Dusty…
