The Reality In This Bill Cowher To Chicago Bears Talk
Honestly, all Bears fans would probably prefer the Super Bowl-winning, square-jawed head coach to the frustratingly stoic Lovie Smith. To watch the franchise painfully stagnate in mediocrity isn’t fun, but swapping head coaches isn’t the most important coaching change to make. Besides, Bill Cowher to the Bears isn’t likely to go down anyway.
Matt Phillip already covered it and it would be a great idea to jump start a sliding team by bringing in a head coach that could literally kick most of their asses. Think Mike Ditka style. After all, if the Bears play is predicated on being dirty, mean and aggressive, isn’t it only logical that the head coach have the personality to lead it?
But, don’t forget, either, that Smith led the Bears during two great seasons in 2005 and 2006 where the defense was pretty awesome. Then again, I know, I know — Ron Rivera coached that unit, which subsequently got worse after he left was summarily banished to San Diego. So where am I taking this?
Ron. Turner. The oft-reproved offensive coordinator has had since 2005, in his second term, to make the Bears offense a feared one. So far, the only ones to fear the offense has been Bears fans themselves. That, coupled with a slew of questionable play calls, means if Turner is the only coach to go after the season, nobody is going to be unhappy.
Now, back to Cowher. NFL Network just reported that the Bears head-coaching job would “excite” the former Steelers coach. It means next to nothing when you know that the Texans head-coaching job would also “excite” him. It’s more likely that the prospect of making $10 million per year — his purported asking price — is what really is “exciting”.
And if we all know Jerry Angelo like we think we do, there is absolutely no way that Cowher and his accompanying price tag would be even briefly discussed in Chicago. Plus, further complicating matters, Smith would have to be bought out of the two years and $11 million left on his contract and Cowher would rather coach on the East Coast anyway.
So, you see, it’s almost forlorn to think that anyone but Lovie, let alone Cowher, could even remotely be a plausible candidate to coach the Bears next year. Then again, when the rest of your season is just for fun, you do find that you have time to waste.

Waddle and Silvy said today that Cowher has been quoted as saying, that Houston and Chicago would be the two options he would be most interested in. Please God, please
I don’t think that a new coach will turn the team around. We have issues all around, as we all know, and Bill Cowher won’t be able to change that.
i could just see it now: the same mediocre team, jay mariotti in the paper calling the coach a ‘cowherd’
Colin Cowherd wants to know: “Why?!” Plus, Mariotti is about as douchey as they come.
First player to cry under imagined Cowher regime: I’m going with Chris Williams.
Bill Cowher. Next HC of the Chicago Bears.
