And One More Thing (For Now) About The Chicago Bears Coaching Gossip

by Shea Johnson on Wednesday 25 November 2009 at 8:00 pm

Another name (supposedly?) popped up today in connection to the Bears offensive coordinator position that may or may not actually be open once the season ends: Mike Martz. Seemingly moments afterward, Martz said it was all “crap”. But, the best part about the idea of replacing your management and coaching staff is the Bleacher Report-style reporting that comes out in droves, appearing to indicate that there is no end to the possible candidates.

Thus, there is no better time than now, with the long Thanksgiving weekend coming and all, to cover all the names sure to be thrown into mix for two jobs that aren’t hiring between now and next Monday.

Who do you like? Head coach and offensive coordinator. Give me names below …

Is this assuming that none of the UFL coaches can be lured out of their sweet, sweet gigs?

Charlie Weiss? You mean the guy who couldn’t coach one of the 10 best funded NCAA organizations out of an embarrassment of a season? I’ll take my chances with Ron Turner rather than teaching a new play book that wont last to the whole team.

And do you really think that Mike Martz who used to be Lovie’s boss is interested in having Lovie for his immediate supervisor? Do you think that kind of chemistry is the solution? It’s not.

Something has to be done, that’s for sure. The OC needs to be replaced as do most of the offensive position coaches (Harry Heistand in particular). If Jerry Angelo and Lovie Smith can’t agree on a new offensive coordinator AND a real defensive PLAY-CALLER with some fresh ideas, then Jerry Angelo should just wait until he can replace Lovie with Bill Cowher or someone similar. This team looks uninspired and in many cases clueless week after week.

The Martz-Lovie dynamic is a good point to make. Also, Marinelli was head coach at Detroit when Martz was OC …

Oh! New game! Six degrees of coaching separation. First: Lovie Smith and Bill Belecheck. Go!
