And You Thought It Was Cheap To Be Below Average

As I was perusing some football sites, I came across the Forbes’ NFL Team Valuations. A traditional opinion voiced by fans posits the Bears are cheap. But it’s not like they have the money to spend, do they? You know, because of something-something-the economy.

Well first, let’s take a look at Forbes’ rankings: The Bears are ninth in the entire NFL in terms of value, with their current value listed at $1.08 billion and a one-year value change at +2%. The rest of the NFC North looks like this:

#17 Green Bay: Value at $1.01 billion; one-year value 0%.

#28 Detroit: Value at $872 million; one-year value -5%.

#31 Minnesota: Value at $835 million; one-year value 0%.

If you click on the Bears’ page, you’ll find a more detailed breakdown of just how much cash they do make, and really, it’s no wonder that for the crappy playing surface that is Soldier Field, the Bears don’t have a reason to leave or force the Park District into a new agreement. Talk about an exceptional stadium deal…

The 2009 Chicago Bears: Where we set new marks for futility on the field, but rake in the money.
