Charlie Weis Would Think About Becoming The New Ron Turner — Blog Down, Chicago Bears

Charlie Weis Would Think About Becoming The New Ron Turner

by Shea Johnson on Monday 7 December 2009 at 7:00 am

When If Ron Turner is fired at season’s end, the Bears will have at least one new candidate to consider as his replacement. A source close to Charlie Weis says you can count Weis in as officially being interested in a vacant Bears offensive coordinator position. And with that, let the Weis-to-Bears talk commence.

When you think about it, what would be a good the best follow-up job to a very piss-poor, high-profiled tenure at one of the most celebrated universities in the country? How about taking over for a man who, by pretty much all accounts, has had a very piss-poor, high-profiled tenure with one of the most celebrated professional franchises in the country? Insta-hero!

The source made mention of Weis’ desire to prove all those Midwestern haters wrong who believe he, indeed, isn’t the offensive genius they surely once thought he was, saying it’s a motivating factor for him wanting to coach again in what is essentially the same media market.

Weis’ offenses tore it up when he was with New England, but once taking over as head coach at Notre Dame, he’s had only varied success. I mean, they went 3-9 in 2007, for chrissakes. When you lay an egg like that at a school that gets as much funding as it does, the question is inevitable: How much of his success in New England can be accredited to Bill Belecheck? I don’t know … just ask Romeo Crennel.

What do you, distinguished commenters, think? If you don’t approve, that’s fine, but be warned: Dude is fucking crazy.

First, I’d like to say that I’m not distinguished in any way. Others? Yep. Me? Not so much.

Second, I don’t want Charlie Weis getting within 20 miles of Halas Hall. Unless we make drastic changes to our offensive line in the offseason, it won’t matter who is coordinating the offense. Mostly because if the line is bad, Cutler and Forte will likewise be bad.

Third, he’s one of the only men I’ve seen get gastric bypass and GAIN weight. Seriously….his stomach is the size of a walnut and he’s still gaining weight. If you look at a picture from his initial introduction at ND to now, he’s gained 50 lbs at least. Fat bastard.

I know it’s stupid, but I’d like to see some new coaches come in without the baggage of a fanbase that already hates them (see: Marinelli).

I’m going to second Terri on this one… give some fresh blood a chance. Maybe they’ll mix it up for us and have some good outcomes. Either way, it’s up in the air. A whole team’s success can’t depend on one coach no matter how loved or hated they are.
