Bears Vs. Lions Preview And Game Thread

by Shea Johnson on Sunday 3 January 2010 at 8:00 am

This is the last game of the season; something to check in on occasionally as you await the start of a crucial offseason. And don’t be scuurred, Danieal Manning, you’ll be protected by Tommie Harris as long as he may continue to, uh, by the looks of it, put the ball anywhere he wants to.

And, appropriately, now to the game: The Bears aren’t playing for anything, unless you’re one to believe the difference between 6-10 and 7-9 seasons could sway a coach’s job security one way or the other, which is ludicrous. The Lions aren’t playing for anything, either. So, really, why watch?

Teams will normally say they’re playing for pride, which is nice and all, but if pride won championships, Al Davis would be vying for a seven-peat.  Actually, the only appeal these types of games have is in seeing unproven talent showcase whatever it is they’ve got, in many cases, for the first time.

Get Off My Lawn, You God Damn Kids!

Third-round pick Juaquin Iglesias is active for the first time this season. You should see him on the field, at least for a while, considering Johnny Knox is out and Devin Hester is returning from injury. Fourth-round pick D.J. Moore could see time returning kicks and at cornerback, due to the absences of Knox, Peanut Tillman and Danieal Manning. Also, third-rounder Jarron Gilbert, after playing for the longest amount of time in his short career last Monday night, is likely to get a final opportunity to record his very first stat of the season. Awwww. Alex Brown ain’t sayin’ nothin’.

Keep The Momentum Going

It would be nice to see the Bears pass rush, Jay Cutler, and Devin Aromashodu all perform well for the second week in a row. Not sure who will start at quarterback for the Lions yet, but all signs point away from Joey Harrington.

Ma Prédiction

Cutler finishes strong, we run the ball far more than anyone — including us — want us to:
