Dare The Bears Split Up This Bromance?

by Shea Johnson on Sunday 28 February 2010 at 8:20 pm

New offensive coordinator Mike Martz’ offense has no need for dynamic, pass-catching tight ends. See production of Ernie Conwell, Daniel Campbell, Sean McHugh and Vernon Davis under his tenures. Greg Olsen is pretty much a dynamic, pass-catching tight end. Uh-oh. (more…)

Ron Turner Is The Indianapolis Colts’ Problem Now

by Shea Johnson on Saturday 27 February 2010 at 8:00 pm

Ron Turner is fleeing Stanford after less than one month and headed to Indianapolis to do … something. I hope Peyton Manning is open to throwing a preposterous amount of short-yardage passes, because they say even when Turner plays roulette, he never puts his chips on numbers higher than 10.

No Surprise: The Early Repercussions Of Bad-Mouthing The Raiders

by Shea Johnson on Friday 26 February 2010 at 8:00 pm

The last post of the week; something to ponder as you await the certain couch slouch and booze binge of the weekend.

When our senior writer, Matt Phillip — shown here, having his back summarily broken — decided to continue a series we began last year; a series declaring, one-by-one, every team not the Bears to be complete shit, I was all for it. At the same time, I knew there would be fans of said other teams who would not understand why this was humorous. (more…)

Bears’ Newest Game Plan: Get Every Available Free Agent

by Shea Johnson on Friday 26 February 2010 at 6:45 pm

Why do I get the feeling that, as we speak, someone in the Bears organization has barricaded themselves inside the team’s PR room and taken control of the “wire”. Whatever that means. How else do you explain the Bears’ inexplicable interest in all these high-profiled free agents? (more…)

Bears Lose Coin Toss, Will Never Participate In Draft Again

by Shea Johnson on Friday 26 February 2010 at 1:15 pm

By virtue of a coin flip, the Bears lost out on the number 10 overall pick in the NFL Draft this morning, conceding  it to the Jacksonville Jaguars. Understandably upset, the Bears will now have to wait until the 11th overall selection before watching Denver go on the clock.

In Fairness, Devin Hester Doesn’t Have Time For The News

by Shea Johnson on Thursday 25 February 2010 at 2:25 pm

Likely perplexed by everybody’s chatter over Sea World these last two days, Devin Hester has taken to Twitter in search of clarity: “Why yall hate Sea World so much? Whats wrong with it?” Shhhh! Why ruin his fondness for whales?

Goodbye, Adewale Ogunleye, Possessor Of Better Name Than “Aaron Kampman”

by Shea Johnson on Thursday 25 February 2010 at 1:45 pm

He was such a force in the NFC championship three years ago. With exception to the Cutler-for-rights-to-participate-in-the-NFL-Draft swap, he was the recompense in the Bears’ biggest trade of the last 10 years. And I so proudly learned to say his name correctly. For these reasons, I’m going to miss Adewale Ogunleye. (more…)

Schadenfreude (AFC Edition): Oakland Raiders

by Matt Phillip on Thursday 25 February 2010 at 1:30 pm

Schadenfreude, formerly Why Your Team Sucks, is a bi-weekly (hopefully) posting about the unfortunate moments and embarrassments of all NFL teams NOT named the Chicago Bears. As we already trudged through the waste of the NFC we are doing the AFC. Your comments, venom and hate-mail are encouraged and appreciated. (more…)

At Least The Bears Are (Reportedly) Trying For Julius Peppers

by Shea Johnson on Thursday 25 February 2010 at 12:15 pm

Year after year, we’ve watched while the Bears did nothing in free agency. There is an old adage and I believe it goes something like: don’t give me Brandon Lloyd and tell me he’s T.J. Houshmandzadeh. Bad example, maybe. But, the Bears did something remarkable last year, something they never do — instigated a blockbuster trade. Is this reason enough to believe Julius Peppers to Chicago is going to happen? (more…)

AFC Edition: Schadenfreude (formerly ‘Why Your Team Sucks’)

by Matt Phillip on Tuesday 23 February 2010 at 12:30 pm

That’s right. After a long break in between posts, because there is no NFL news outside of the Saints’ Super Bowl party still going on in New Orleans. we’re going to start up something that we wrote about during the season: Why teams other than the Chicago Bears blow total ass. Only this time, we’re ragging on that sad bastard child of a conference, the AFC.

So stay tuned over the next month or so to feel better about yourself for not pulling for one of these teams, or being a fan of a CLEARLY superior NFC team (except the Lions………you play NAIA ball). Stay tuned for the poorly crafted jokes and misdirected insults. With any luck this ’series’ will get you within a few weeks of the 2010 NFL Draft. The one the Bears won’t be attending.

Bears Slowly Becoming Destination For Has-Been Receivers

by Shea Johnson on Tuesday 16 February 2010 at 6:45 pm

Not to say Torry Holt doesn’t still have it or that the most recent used-to-be-really-good receiver to state his desire to play in Chicago, Deion Branch, can’t still contribute. But, the real question here is: Where was this interest five years ago? Here is one Bears blog that is all for Branch to Chicago. Oh, by the way, the post is from 2006.
