Bears Fans Need Yoga Classes And Junk

by Matt Phillip on Monday 17 August 2009 at 9:00 pm

OK, it was one preseason game. As I was driving home from Michigan late Sunday night, I was listening to sports talk radio because that’s what keeps me awake on the road dutiful sports bloggers do. Was Jay Cutler impressive? Hardly. Did the secondary show they could cover anyone? They did not. (Buffalo QB’s were a combined 28/38… vomit). Again, it’s one preseason game. I realize that the media has more drama queens than a 8th grade dance and they/we usually lead the charge to rushed judgment, but while typing this half naked I am taking a stand!! /checks if pants are still on… they are. What To Do With $17.67 Million?

by Matt Phillip on Monday 6 July 2009 at 9:40 pm

Man, $17.67 million dollars. That’s like, 17 quadrillion pennies or something. You could make a money vault and swim in it like Mr. McDuck did in Duck Tales in the days of yore. OR, if you’re the Bears you can throw it all at say………..Anquan Boldin.

I realize he’s asking for more than that ($20 mil, not gonna happen), and probably looking for more than a one year deal, but why not say, “fuck it, we’re gonna try to win right here, right now and blow our wad in 2009.” When have the Bears EVER done that? Would it be so bad??? We’ve accomplished more this offseason then in the past 15 combined! The worst he says is ‘No’ and then he tears us up for 215 yards and 3 TD’s come November and I look like a genius. I guess it’s win/win for me when you look at it that way.

The Greatest Offseason Ever?

by Shea Johnson on Wednesday 17 June 2009 at 6:55 pm

A franchise quarterback precipitously becomes available in an otherwise uneventful team offseason so, naturally, you make a trade for said quarterback and in the process, fix a 25-year old problem. Then, not one, not two, but three wide receivers with Pro Bowl talent unfathomably follow suit. What do you do? (more…)

Drew Rosenhaus Tweet Assumes To Ignite Boldin Trade Rumors All Over Again

by Shea Johnson on Saturday 9 May 2009 at 2:00 pm

The following suggests the Bears trade for Anquan Boldin by offering Nathan Vasher, a 2010 second-round pick and a 2010 fifth-round pick in return. Please respond accordingly.

Drew Rosenhaus’ twitter account is slowly becoming one of my favorites to follow–until it becomes my least favorite to follow. You have to admire someone, even as unabashed as Drew, who continues to find new, somewhat-entertaining vehicles for promoting his clients.

Yesterday, fit somewhere in Rosenhaus’ regular tri-hourly updates, was a little blurb regarding the expected whereabouts of Anquan Boldin in 2009: (more…)

Cards Stiff Arm Possible Deal To Send Boldin To Bears

by Shea Johnson on Saturday 25 April 2009 at 7:20 pm

By all appearances, it was an NFL Draft day that ended with a thud for the Chicago Bears. Their only pick, the 49th overall, was traded to Seattle for a third and fourth rounder tomorrow. But, an innocent-enough tweet sent over by Brad Biggs of the Chicago Sun-Times changed everything:

Angelo said the bears talked to cards about boldin but could not a deal done.

So you’re saying there’s a chance?

Once it became clear that their second-round pick would not entice the Cards to trade, the Bears tried to move up, motivated by their interest in Ohio State wide receiver Brian Robiskie, among others.

Boldin Reenters NFL Draft, Projected To Go In Second Round

by Shea Johnson on Friday 24 April 2009 at 8:21 pm

If this ESPN report is true, Cardinals wide receiver Anquan Boldin can now be had, in one swift, seemingly implausible swoop, for just a second-round pick.

With The Super Bowl Over, It’s Time For Bears To Get Boldin

by Shea Johnson on Monday 2 February 2009 at 12:34 am

The Cardinals Super Bowl hopes ended on a non-reviewed Kurt Warner fumble, but their troubles may have just begun. Both Warner and wide receiver Anquan Boldin could now be available to the highest bidder. And both should be targeted by the Bears.

The problem is the Cardinals are probably not going to let Warner leave. Why should they? He just capped off a Pro Bowl season by leading the Cardinals to their first Super Bowl in team history. Plus, the Cardinals aren’t sold on shaky Matt Leinart just yet, so letting Warner go could be disastrous.

Boldin, on the other hand, while having just completed another fantastic, Pro Bowl campaign, was not without controversy. He’s butted heads with head coach Ken Whisenhunt and offensive coordinator Todd Haley, didn’t participate in the NFC Championship celebration, vowed never to play for the Cardinals again and wants to be paid like teammate and fellow stud receiver, Larry Fitzgerald.
