Bears Eyeing An ‘Austin-To-Chicago Pipeline’

by Matt Phillip on Thursday 2 July 2009 at 1:45 pm

….or they should. Call me crazy but as recently as a few years back it seemed like every fourth player on the Bears roster was from Oklahoma (Tommie Harris, Marc Bradley, Dusty Dvoracek, J.D. Runnels and now Juaquin Iglesias). Along with those Sooners, the Bears have tapped into perennial SEC doormat Vanderbilt in the past two drafts (Earl Bennett, Chris Williams, D.J. Moore). We’re not including Cutler here because Denver had the privilege of drafting him.
Looking at what the Bears needs will be starting this year, and looking into the very near future, starting a draft pipeline via Texas makes the most sense to me. (more…)

The Bears Secondary Wants You!

by Matt Phillip on Thursday 25 June 2009 at 7:00 pm

Well not really, but it would appear that they should just start holding tryouts in the Chicago area. I mean I ‘played’ safety freshman year of high school, why not give me a shot? With the ‘talent’ we are currently throwing out there we might as well start handing out tryout flyers. (more…)

Based on a Scores Report article last week, when Rosenhaus stated he was pleased that a third team had entered into the mix, the Bucs and Jets were believed to be the initial two teams. Of course, then, this would make the Bears the more recent third team. (more…)

The Stats Don’t Lie? Cutler And Favre Played Near Identically In 2008

by Shea Johnson on Monday 1 June 2009 at 10:00 pm

I’m confused. Is this stat comparison between Brett Favre and Jay Cutler meant to insinuate the Bears are no better off with a 25-year old Pro Bowler than they are a 39-year old washed up, wishy-washy Wisconsin legend? Or is Football Scientist author K.C. Joyner, you know, just sayin’?

In March of 2009, Joyner crunched the numbers and analyzed the 2008 seasons of Favre and Cutler and found that their performances were strikingly similar. (more…)

by Shea Johnson on Monday 13 October 2008 at 4:39 pm

Of the two men in the photograph, one is the owner of eleven identical denim jackets and has seen Tommy Boy 242 times. In 2008.

The other, however, was just busted for violation of the NFL’s policy on anabolic steroids and related substances and is unable to participate in the next four games.

Guard Terrence Metcalf thus becomes the first person in recorded history to be diagnosed with steroid immunity. (more…)
