Another Day, Another Instance Of No One Listening To Torry Holt

by Shea Johnson on Friday 12 March 2010 at 9:45 pm

It’s official: Torry Holt has become the best friend in every romantic comedy, ever. Regardless of how often, and not-so-subtly, he professes his love for the Chicago Bears — and it’s been, both, often and not-so-subtle — the Bears just don’t react. We’re very close to the awkward, “I thought, maybe, someday you’d feel that for me!” speech. (more…)

Perspective: Hey, It Could Be Worse

by Matt Phillip on Tuesday 26 January 2010 at 11:00 am

Yes, we’ve got a coach who seems to care as much about his team’s success as I care about personal hygiene; we’ve got ownership who seems stuck in the pre-Super Bowl NFL; and no matter how much we beg and plead, we can’t convince other coaches to come and work for us. But, even with those things working against us, the Bears still aren’t one of the bottom-feeding franchises in the league…yet. So, until we are, let’s take a look at those teams, point out their flaws, and start feeling better about ourselves! (more…)

“Hey there! What’s going on? Come on in; glad you could make it! There’s drinks near the back and food right over there. Yeah, I know, right? What’s that? … I still couldn’t hear you. Oh! Who’s that? On the floor? That’s Matt, he writes for the blog. What? … Oh, is he okay? I don’t know, let me see: Matt! MATT! MAAAATTTTT! Are you alright?!”

Matt: “*Gurgle* It’s my fucking heart. It’s blowed up, I think. God damn Urlacher jersey and my blowed-up heart! … GO. HAWK. EYYYYYYES!! AHHHHHGGGG!! …”

So, This One Time I Watched Brett Favre Play….

by Gavin Tugana on Wednesday 30 December 2009 at 12:00 am

What a game.

Everyone knows what my thought process was going into the game. I wanted the Bears to win oh so badly, but I also attempted to keep myself rooted in reality. My friend, on the other hand, was pulling (and rather staunchly) for the upset win. I attempted to bring him back to Earth, but it didn’t work. I loved the seats we had (sec. 430, 14 rows up). Looking at the stadium map, they look awful. But, as you can see from the view, it offered a great vantage point to watch the plays develop.

REPORT: Vote Blog Down, Chicago Bears, And Ms. Kardashian Promises To Handsomely Reward Your Efforts*

by Shea Johnson on Thursday 19 March 2009 at 4:38 pm

Apparently, more than just my girlfriend and cubicle buddy read Blog Down, Chicago Bears, as it is a nominee in Zoner Sports‘ Best Sports Blog Name tourney. That’s right. 48 blogs were chosen, placed in respective regions, and seeded, much like another certain tournament going on at this very moment.

Blog Down is arbitrarily ranked as a #7 seed in the Granville Waiters region. Our first worthy opponent — in what appears to be a Bears vs. Bears face-off — is six-seeded Bear Goggles On. I’m not liking the match-up logistically, but given I just want to make it into the second round, vote, vote, and vote some more. Make sure to vote on all the matchups, too, not just ours. Together we can help shock the world!

As of 5:06 PM CST today, Bear Goggles has a hefty lead, 71 to 29%. Voting for the first round ends Sunday at 11:59 PM CST.

*Kim Kardashian won’t actually doing anything if you vote.

UPDATE: Blog Down has closed the deficit to 58 to 42% as of Friday, 12:00 AM CST.

Week 1 half-assed preview, our final post until Sunday night, and the MVN feature

by Shea Johnson on Thursday 4 September 2008 at 3:11 pm

This Sunday night, uber quarterback Peyton Manning, brother to Eli and son of Archie, will bring his intimidating stare and surgically-repaired knee to virginal Lucas Oil stadium as the Colts take on the Bears in the Week 1 rematch – in case you forgot – of Super Bowl XLI. No word yet on if Manning will bring the rented fog machine.

Manning missed the entire preseason after undergoing surgery to remove an infected bursa sac in his left knee. Initially, there was doubt on whether he would be able to start Week 1, but he insists he is ready to go.

Now, Bears fans’ hopes rest on Manning being a bit rusty, and two key members of the Colts’ offensive line being absent. Center Jeff Saturday and left guard Ryan Lilja are out with their own respective injuries. (more…)

Just a reminder: Blog Down is your Bears source this NFL season

by Shea Johnson on Monday 1 September 2008 at 6:37 pm

As the 2008 NFL season draws closer upon us, here’s a friendly reminder that Blog Down, Chicago Bears has the Bears fan covered.

When Kyle Orton’s wily beard defects from his face and attacks Tony Kornheiser, we’ll be there. And when one of Lance Briggs’ illegitimate children rams their power wheels into a neighbor’s mailbox and then leaves the scene of the transgression, we’ll be there.

But, alas, we’re no dummies either. We can bring the intelligent football talk. And we will. And we’ll do it in our own special way.

BEARS FANS EVERYWHERE: UNITE! You finally have a site to go to that says what’s on your mind and isn’t afraid to depart from the insipid and overly-analytical content of the average Bears blog. And sure, you might not always agree with what we write, but we promise you’ll have fun telling us why we’re wrong… Bear down, my friends!

Blog Down, Chicago Bears: Because 23 different quarterbacks in 15 years can’t be wrong.
