This Could Be Epic. In The Worst Way Possible

by Matt Phillip on Wednesday 14 October 2009 at 12:00 pm

OK, is this really happening?? Does this have any traction at all besides the ESPN rumor mill? (ZOMG!) I’m not surprised in the least that T.O. wants out of Buffalo, nor should you. I was/am very surprised about the Bears being in the mix. Given the very recent history of the Bears acquiring big-name talent (Cutler, Pace) it’s not totally shocking, but I definitely wasn’t expecting to see that yesterday. More than my surprise at the rumors that are swirling around, I don’t like the trade possibility. The Bears are humming along at 3-1 and have some decent momentum going into two very tough road games. The offense is slowly starting to click and the thought of bringing in a big name player mid-season isn’t something I’d like to see. (more…)

Shea Is Sorry For Being A Slacker

by Matt Phillip on Tuesday 4 August 2009 at 8:56 pm

Sorry for the lack of posts folks. We’ve both been down in Bourbonnais at training camp getting exclusive interviews/content with Bears players. We talked with Lovie Smith, fawned over Urlacher’s physical condition (swoon!) and gotten drunk with Cutler….

No, actually Shea is there helping fund the local economy by drinking twenty Old Style’s a night and I am swamped at work………and very lazy. We’ll pick it up later in the week.

Knucks.

(Editor’s note: Not an actual photograph of me, although it’s a little eerie that these people chose Matt’s nickname of all nicknames to write on to the balloon there. Oh, what’s that you say? It’s Pirate Princess Pickle Bunny, not Irate Princess Pickle Bunny? Oh, okay. Never mind then.)

Tommie Harris goes all “The Rock” on the media

by Shea Johnson on Friday 26 September 2008 at 8:15 pm

You have got to wonder if the pressure isn’t starting to get to defensive tackle Tommie Harris. Through three games this season — his first being the highest-paid DT in the NFL – Harris has produced only two tackles and one for loss.

Thus, it is completely understandable why he might employ sarcasm as a method of dealing with any potential ridicule. Or at least that’s what I might think if I were into that psychology bullshit. Which I’m totally not… I’m not. (more…)

Add Marty Booker to the list of people who hate secrets

by Shea Johnson on Friday 22 August 2008 at 5:30 pm

Poor Marty Booker. The initial feeling surrounding his reunion with the Bears was a positive one. But now that the dust has settled, it’s left Booker feeling lost and confused. Perhaps, even wishing that he had just stayed in Miami. Shudder.

Per the Chicago Sun-Times, Booker let his frustration with being treated like the uglier Olsen twin and ignored entirely - we always thought Ashley was cuter – be known:  ”I haven’t gotten many plays in any of the games,” Booker said. ”I’m trying to figure out what is going on. I’ve asked them and ‘they have a plan.’ I don’t know what it is. It’s secretive around here.”

Oh, they have a plan alright. They always have a plan.

Allow me to turn your attention to page 153…

And you thought they didn’t have a plan. pshhhhh!

Chris Williams’ back injury should be of big concern

by Shea Johnson on Tuesday 5 August 2008 at 1:13 pm

For all the talk that left tackle Chris Williams’ back injury is nothing serious, it sure is taking a long time to heal. Williams, the Bears’ first-round pick, has been out since July 24 when he left practice due to stiffness in his lower back.

Hopes were high that Williams could come in and start right away at left tackle — no easy feat for a rookie by any stretch of the imagination. Yet, as he missed his 13th straight practice on Monday, the optimism that he’ll be at left tackle on opening day has begun to fade. (more…)

Bears want Kevin Jones to drop weight like it’s hot

by Shea Johnson on Monday 28 July 2008 at 12:54 pm

With respect to safety Mike Brown, Bears running back Kevin Jones has to be the most physically ripped of all the players on the Bears squad. Even as rehabilitation from knee surgery limited his movement, Jones entered training camp looking as stalwart and impressive as ever. Still, the Bears would like to see him lose 10 pounds.

It’s a request maybe more fitting for Refrigerator Perry or Cedric Benson, but per Brad Biggs of the Chicago Sun-Times, “The thinking is Jones will better be able to handle the the wear and tear of the job on his surgically repaired right knee if he’s a little bit lighter.”

Makes sense, I suppose. Jones is currently 228 pounds and on the physically unable to perform (PUP) list. If my math skills serve me right, that means the Bears want him 218 pounds. You’ve got to love the California public school system.

The Bears added the former Lion back on July 15. As of now, it’s uncertain whether or not Jones will be able to participate in any offseason activities. When ready, he’ll likely either split time with, or back up, rookie Matt Forte. Duh.

After a horrible 2007 season, it’s good to know the Chicago Bears’ offensive line isn’t worried about job security
