Blog Down Breakdown: DET 7 CHI 34

by Shea Johnson on Wednesday 8 October 2008 at 4:06 pm

First, this is so late it is nearly irrelevant. HA! I said nearly…

Who knew the Bears had much of a passing game? Alright. So the question may be better phrased, “Who knew the Lions secondary was that mediocre?”

Kyle Orton looked like the bearded hero we always hoped he could become. He passed for 334 yards and unlike usual, not all passes were two-yard screens to Jason McKie.

Bears receivers combined for 13 catches with Devin Hester (five rec., 66 yards, 1 TD) and Rashied Davis (6 rec., 97 yards) leading the sudden breakout.

The defense was again awesome holding Detroit’s lame-duck offense to 185 total yards, the unit’s lowest amount yielded since October 2006.

The Bears were up 17-3 at one point in the third quarter, but a pair of costly fumbles by tight end Greg Olsen and a diminishing run defense allowed the Panthers to practically steal a win despite being thoroughly dominated for most of the game. (more…)
