Bears, Lions Will Not Play In NFC North This Year Says Everybody

by Decatur Staley on Monday 26 July 2010 at 9:30 am

Why is it that everywhere I turn, I see the same two teams predicted to fight atop the NFC North? Minnesota still has yet to hear a peep out of Brett Favre–mind you, a classless selfish jackass. While, Chicago added a real offensive coordinator and has a real QB. (more…)

Green Bay, Oh How You Have Failed Us

by Shea Johnson on Sunday 1 November 2009 at 7:00 pm

And let the Brett Favre love affair continue. Walking–albeit, a little slower than he used to–into the place that he built, Favre threw four touchdowns in a Vikings 38-26 win over Green Bay. Thus, the Vikes improve to 7-1 and, more importantly, are one step closer to an insurmountable lead in the division.

Brett Favre Has Twitter, Or So It Would Seem

by Matt Phillip on Wednesday 24 June 2009 at 6:30 pm

Hey all, I’ll be taking over for Shea for a few days while he ends his life by having his girlfriend move in with him, goes to sunny CA to visit his home boys and girls.

The offseason is brutal enough for us Bears fans. We have to suffer through the “Wait ‘til next year” refrain from Cubs fans, and the perpetual ineptitude of the Bulls. (Yes the Blackhawks were good this year but now that their season is done, I’m sure that 0.5% of the city cares) As if that wasn’t enough, for the past three off-seasons we’ve had to deal with the fucking Brett Favre saga. (more…)

Adrian Peterson Will Not Save Your Stupid College Football Program

by Shea Johnson on Saturday 21 March 2009 at 2:12 am

To be fair, Adrian Peterson most likely never knew of any pledged donation to save the football program at North Iowa Area Community College. But, that’s a far cry from the message Kevin Griffin, a former NIACC assistant coach, had relayed to head coach Steve LaLonde just two days ago.

Griffin led LaLonde to believe that Adrian Peterson, along with three other NFL players, had volunteered to keep the fledgling football program alive at a cost of $150,000. Naturally, LaLonde and the rest of NIACC were stoked; publicizing this miracle and the generosity of their heroes, AP and friends, to the media. (more…)

Not The Acquisition I Would Be Wishing For

by Shea Johnson on Sunday 1 February 2009 at 5:09 pm

Detroit Lions wide receiver Mike Furrey has been told he’s not coming back to the team. Needless to say, Furrey isn’t upset…AT ALL. Since ousted Lions coach Rod Marinelli took the defensive line/assistant head coaching job with the Bears and Furrey played with Lovie Smith in St. Louis, some think Furrey to the Bears makes sense.

Week 11 Preview, Vasher Could Ride Bench, And The D-Line Zeroes In On The Elusive Sack

by Shea Johnson on Sunday 16 November 2008 at 1:08 am

The Bears (5-4) head up to Lambeau Field to take on QB Aaron Rodgers and the Packers (4-5) in this year’s first installment of the best rivalry in football. A Bears win guarantees they’ll keep, at least, a share of the division lead.

Nathan Vasher could lose playing time in favor of Corey Graham. (Yahoo!)

I guess there is a place for philosophical talk in football. (Green Bay Gazette) (more…)

Week 9 Preview, Kyle Orton’s Contract Status, And Watch Out For Mike Brown

by Shea Johnson on Saturday 1 November 2008 at 11:00 pm

You could say this Sunday’s game versus Detroit has all the makings of a trap game if the Bears aren’t careful. Luckily, if anyone on the team has Internet access, they were warned here, here, and oh, here too.

We get it. Don’t look past the Lions. Well, last time I checked, their starting quarterback is known for running out of his own endzone. Sorry if that doesn’t necessarily color me worried. But it’s true. The Bears shouldn’t take Detroit, or any NFL team, for granted. Even if their QB is Dan Orlovsky. (more…)

Blog Down Breakdown: MIN 41 CHI 48

by Shea Johnson on Tuesday 21 October 2008 at 6:14 pm

Like the night Vikings punter Chris Kluwe inevitably had after miffing a punt, then a would-be illegal kick on Sunday; these breakdowns are too long. Forget that I am disgustingly lazy. Expect shorter versions in the future. Like. Now.

Moving the ball through the air, putting up nearly 50 points, and displaying prowess at the quarterback position are bonifide signs that it isn’t 1993. Yep. These certainly aren’t your dad’s big brother’s Chicago Bears.

Kyle Orton looked sharp once again, treating the ball like he does his sperm: evenly distributing it to everyone within a thirty foot radius.

Receiver Marty Booker and tight ends Greg Olsen and Desmond Clark were the targets of 12 Orton squirts passes, combining for 212 yards between the three of them. (more…)

Week 8 preview, the slight slump of Matt Forte, and the sack-lacking defense

by Shea Johnson on Saturday 18 October 2008 at 9:58 pm

Bernard Berrian has 42 million reasons to be THIS happy about being a Viking. And the Bears have 25 million reasons to be excited about the prospect of shutting him down tomorrow. If only they had the cornerbacks to do so.

In case you missed it, Berrian received a six-year, $42 million deal to sign with the Vikes in the offseason and subsequently turned down a five-year $25 million offer to remain with the Bears. Oh and also, the Bears secondary is really banged up. (more…)

Close but not quite has a numerical value

by Shea Johnson on Wednesday 15 October 2008 at 6:32 pm

It reads like a horror script to us Bears fans, but the fact it’s not is more alarming: right now, the Bears should be 6-0.

If that isn’t enough, The Fifth Down, the New York Times’ NFL blog, breaks down this disappointment by number.

Four minutes and eight points is what separates the Bears from total domination and their current three-way tie in the suddenly mediocre NFC North.

While we’re at it, let me throw another number at you: 10 — the number of games in the short season in which essentially only Green Bay, Minnesota, and Chicago really matter. But don’t worry Detroit, you’ve still got Roy Williams your new starting quarterback doesn’t take safeties without a fight a fighting chance eh…Barry Sanders.
