Why Your Team Sucks

by Shea Johnson on Saturday 4 July 2009 at 10:00 am

Every other NFC team that isn’t the Chicago Bears sucks. No other team will hoist the NFC Championship trophy in 2009, or even send one player to the Pro Bowl. In another world, this would go without saying, but since this is not another world, “Why Your Team Sucks” is a new feature that will merely be an excuse to talk shit about the rest of the conference. Devin Hester Wants You To Save Time And Money On Common Legal Matters

by Shea Johnson on Sunday 15 March 2009 at 11:52 pm

The NFL has seen it’s share of players in legal trouble, so take comfort that at least one player — Devin Hester — would see the grass is greener on the other side. So much so, he’s lending his name to the fight against…divorce and name change?

No, not really. Actually, Hester and a slew of other famous athletes, including Orioles’ great Brooks Robinson, Giants running back Brandon Jacobs, and Eagles wide receiver Hank Baskett, have lent their already-stuffed pockets to a new form of flexible advertising. (more…)

For Only $47, You Could Have Been The Proud Owner Of A Fuzzy, Tracky VHS Of Super Bowl XX

by Shea Johnson on Friday 6 March 2009 at 10:18 am

If you ever doubted the surreal powers of Ebay, doubt no longer. An Arlington Heights, Illinois man recently put up a VHS copy of the Bears’ 46-10 thrashing of Tom Brady and the Patriots in Super Bowl XX on the online bidding site and it garnered a whopping $47.

47 dollars? That’s not half bad. Especially considering he started the bid at nine. Hell, this guy might be on to something.

With the economy in the gutter, and work increasingly harder to come by, I think I’ll start digging in my basement for old, dusty Bears tapes as well. I know I have a 2006 Tampa Bay OT loss and the 2005 “Rex Comeback” game versus Atlanta somewhere.

Week 1 half-assed preview, our final post until Sunday night, and the MVN feature

by Shea Johnson on Thursday 4 September 2008 at 3:11 pm

This Sunday night, uber quarterback Peyton Manning, brother to Eli and son of Archie, will bring his intimidating stare and surgically-repaired knee to virginal Lucas Oil stadium as the Colts take on the Bears in the Week 1 rematch – in case you forgot – of Super Bowl XLI. No word yet on if Manning will bring the rented fog machine.

Manning missed the entire preseason after undergoing surgery to remove an infected bursa sac in his left knee. Initially, there was doubt on whether he would be able to start Week 1, but he insists he is ready to go.

Now, Bears fans’ hopes rest on Manning being a bit rusty, and two key members of the Colts’ offensive line being absent. Center Jeff Saturday and left guard Ryan Lilja are out with their own respective injuries. (more…)
